I love the Easter Season. I always have, but for different reasons.
- As a kid, I loved Easter because it meant winter was over and spring was here and no more white stuff to shovel.
- As a college student, I loved Easter because of the Easter / Spring break that allowed me to go home to see my parents (and girlfriend )
- And I always loved Easter for the chocolate Easter Bunny and especially the Easter eggs with chocolate and peanut butter. That's good stuff.
I know . . . I know . . . I'm so shallow.
As I've grown older, I've come to love Easter for a different reason. The real reason. The resurrection of Jesus Christ.
As followers of Jesus Christ, our lives have been forever changed because of the Gospel. It's the Gospel that is the Power of Salvation.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."
And Easter is all about the Gospel. The death, burial, and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
This Sunday is Palm Sunday (April 14). The choir will be presenting music and drama that will point us all to the Resurrection Power. How the Resurrection Power of Jesus Christ defeating death changes everything.
And yet, many - then and now - deny the possibility of the resurrection. For many, their denial stems from their rejection of anything supernatural. If they can't explain it, then it never happened. This mindset would also deny things like creation, a universal flood, a virgin birth, and more Biblical accounts of the supernatural.
But while many deny the resurrection, still many others believe in its reality. They (and I) believe that Jesus Christ did die on the cross, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and rose from the dead three days later. I believe that! I believe in the Gospel! But why??? What are some contributing factors that bring people to belief? What led people to believe the Gospel 2000 years ago and what leads people to believe the Gospel today?
For some, it was sight. (John 20:24-28; Acts 4:20)
For some, it was faith. (John 20:29; Ephesians 2:8-9)
For some, it was recorded testimony. (1 Corinthians 15:1-6)
For some, it was reason. (The Holy Spirit connected the dots)
But for ALL - it was the Holy Spirit drawing them into a faith in the Gospel. And some believed while others don't.
What about you personally? What are the contributing factors that led you to believe in the Gospel? Or are you still not convinced?
I hope to see you this Sunday and I pray that the Spirit will draw you in to believe in the Resurrection Power.
See you Sunday,
